6 DIY Mason Jar Crafts for Autumn
It’s getting cooler outside and autumn is right around the corner. With the season nearly upon us, why not get into the creative spirit and make some beautiful autumn-inspired DIY mason jar crafts?
My sister, Kayla, was feeling creative and crafted these six amazing autumn-themed mason jars. Use them as inspiration to come up with a seasonal design of your own!
October Night Mason Jar
This is a really cool mason jar design which reminds me of an eerie autumn night in the forest. I feel like a crow should be sitting on one of the gold branches with the Headless Horseman lurking!
To make this decoration, pick out a dark purple or blue shimmery spray paint and carefully spray the inside of the mason jar. Next, hot glue some twigs to the lid of the mason jar so they are standing up however you like. Then, spray paint the lid and the twigs gold. Let is dry and you’re all set!
Pumpkin Patch Mason jar
This is a very festive autumn design that looks like it was plucked straight out of a pumpkin patch. It’s a beautiful Thanksgiving design as well!
To make this mason jar decoration, you’ll need an orange matte or semi-gloss spray paint. Carefully spray the outside of the jar orange. Next, you’ll use a green matte or semi-gloss spray paint for the lid. Once the spray paint is dry, glue a little piece of stick on the lid for a stem. Now, just give it some finishing touches with some twine around the jar and the stem as you see fit. If you want the distressed look, scrape the areas of the jar that have the lettering.
Creative Suggestion:
Experiment with different sized jars for a little variation. After all, pumpkins come in all shapes and sizes!
Jack-O-Lantern Mason Jar
Take the pumpkin patch mason jar one step further and turn it into a Jack-O-Lantern! You can make a whole new decoration, or just use the back of your pumpkin jar to make it a Halloween AND Thanksgiving craft, depending on which way it’s facing.
To make this decoration just follow the same steps as the pumpkin patch mason jar. When that part is complete simply paint a Jack-O-Lantern face onto one of the sides. You can either free hand it with a thin paintbrush and black acrylic, or you can use masking tape to make the outline of the facial features and hit it with some black spray paint.
Candy Corn Mason Jar
Nothing says autumn like cheap Halloween candy! This candy corn styled mason jar decoration is the perfect addition to any seasonal festivity.
To make this decoration, you’ll need 3 different color spray paints; a yellow, a white, and an orange. Carefully spray one band of each color around the jar as pictured above. Now just let it dry and scrape the lettering to give it that stressed look. Finish it up with a little twine tied around the neck of the jar.
Ghostly Glow Mason Jar
This spooky glow-in-the-dark mason jar decoration is perfect for Halloween parties, haunted houses, and even trick-or-treaters!
To make this decoration, remove the lid and paint it black with spray paint. Set the lid aside and let it dry.
Next, stick a layer of masking tape to the side of a jar and sketch out a ghost. CAREFULLY cut it out with a razor blade, removing the excess tape around it.
Now, paint the entire outside of the jar with glow-in-the-dark spray paint. Once it’s dry, peel off the remaining masking tape to reveal your ghost. Just replace the lid, charge it with some light, and watch it glow!
Blackened Heart Mason Jar
This design is really sleek and fits right into the autumn design trends. The matte black finish really makes that glossy heart pop!
To make this decoration, you’ll need to stick a layer of masking tape onto the side of the jar, and then sketch out a heart. Use a razor blade to CAREFULLY cut it out and remove the excess tape around your cutout design.
Next, remove the lid and spray paint the outside of the mason jar with a matte black color. Let it dry and then remove the rest of the masking tape. The area under the masking tape will remain unpainted and reveal your shiny heart. Now you can take a paint pen or thin paintbrush with white acrylic and highlight the outside of the design if you’d like. Just finish it up with some twine and you’re good to go!
ALTERNATIVE DESIGN IDEA: Try a skull or a bat instead of a heart for a really cool Halloween design.
