Cast Iron Baked Burrata for a Busy Weeknight
Easy…cheesy…saucy…savory…..Today we’re going to show you exactly how to make baked Burrata!
What is Burrata?
Burrata is an Italian cow’s milk cheese made from the left over remnants of mozzarella. For this reason, burrata is very similar to mozzarella but with a couple of unique characteristics. Unlike the uniform consistency of mozzarella, burrata has a relatively hard outer casing and a very creamy texture inside. It can be enjoyed fresh in salads with slices of heirloom tomatoes, on toasted baguettes, or even just plain if you prefer. But today, we’re going to bake it to perfection!
Baked Burrata is one of those incredibly easy, yet classic Italian comfort foods that’s sure to be a crowd pleaser at your next get-together.

Ingredients for Baked Burrata
Fresh Burrata
Fresh mozzarella
One jar of your favorite tomato sauce (or make your own, Thistle Downs style!)
Grated (or shredded) Parmesan
Italian seasoning
Balsamic Reduction
Optional: toasted baguette slices
Step 1- Layer the Ingredients
In a medium cast-iron skillet, you’re going to layer all of your ingredients, starting with your tomato sauce into the bottom.
Gently dry 4 balls of Burrata with a paper towel, set in sauce. Make sure they are as dry as possible or your dish may be a little watery.
Sprinkle liberally with Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning.
Top with fresh slices of mozzarella between the Burrata. Pat them down with a paper towel as well.
Step 2- Bake the Burrata
Pre-heat your oven to 400F. Place the skillet in the top rack of the oven and bake for 10-15 minutes.
Increase the oven to BROIL, bake for an additional 5 minutes directly under the broiler or until the cheese begins to bubble and turn brown.
Remove from oven once a crispy, golden layer of cheese starts to form.
Let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
Step 3- Toast a Baguette
While the baked Burrata cools, slice a baguette into 1/2 inch pieces and place on a baking sheet. Bake in the oven for ~5 minutes on broil until they are toasted to your liking.
Step 4- Plating and Presentation
I love the aesthetic of a cast-iron skillet as a serving dish, so keep the baked Burrata right in the pan. Add a few fresh sprigs of basil to the skillet, drizzle with a balsamic reduction, and serve!
Conclusion
That’s literally all there is to this incredibly flavorful version of baked Burrata. Serve it as an appetizer or make it your main dish. Either way, everyone will be extremely happy you made it!
