Applesauce Ingredients
6 medium to large apples (sweeter varieties work best. I would suggest Honey Crisp, Gala, or Golden Delicious)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 cup of water
Directions
Peel, core and dice all of your apples. If you have this nifty apple slicer/corer, it does a lot of the work for you!
Place all of your chopped apple pieces in a medium saucepan.
Add the water, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Stir to ensure all of the apple pieces are well coated.
Now just place a lid on the saucepan and let it cook on medium heat for 15-20 minutes.
After 15-20 minutes, check to make sure the apple pieces are nice and soft. They should be very tender at this point, but if they aren’t super tender yet, give them another 5 minutes on medium heat.
Once the apple pieces are soft enough, remove them from the heat. There will still some liquid in the pan still but this is okay! As it cools, it will thicken up nicely into a sweet sauce and incorporate well into the apples.
Now it’s time to smash the apple pieces. I would highly suggest using a potato masher if you have one. If not, a fork works well too. It will just take a little longer.
Once your apples are thoroughly mashed to your liking, mix it up well with a spoon to incorporate all of the brown sugar/cinnamon sauce into it.
And Voilà! You have yourself a wonderfully rich and tasty brown sugar/cinnamon homemade applesauce. Check out our serving suggestions below.
